Gov. Charlie Crist considers holiday-season moratorium on foreclosures--and we wonder why our banks are in trouble. Govt won't let them run their businesses! (C. Edmund Wright comments in blue)

TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Charlie Crist said today he is considering a holiday-season moratorium on foreclosures in Florida, a move similar to a 90-day foreclosure ban sought by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger earlier this month.

"I think it would be a good thing to be able to do," Crist told reporters at the capitol.
"I want to work with the banking industry and do it in a way that's not harmful to them. We want them to continue to succeed, to continue to loan money. But we want to stop foreclosures, especially during the holidays."--he is saying, with a straight face, that they should continue to loan money but we, in govt, won't let them do anything to recover from their bad loans!!! Crist is just like Barney Frank.

I
n California, Schwarzenegger asked lawmakers to enact the 90-day stay on home foreclosures similar to what President-elect Barack Obama proposed at the federal level.--they are Democrat lite--and these are the wizards of smart saying we lost the election because we are too conservative!!  California's legislature is considering the idea in a special session that ends Nov. 30.

It's unclear whether Crist could stay Florida foreclosures through executive order, or if he'd have to seek legislative approval.

On the nation level, the quasi-governmental Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have suspended foreclosure proceedings on mortgages they hold from Nov. 26 to Jan. 9.

"At the federal level, it's happening with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac," Crist said. "Some of these ideas we can learn from."--no, no, he did'nt REALLY SAY we could "learn from Fannie and Freddie did he?

After a bleak report last week showed Florida's current-year budget shortfall at $2.1 billion, Crist also said he's open to a special session on the state's finances.

"I'm trying to get the temperature of the House and the Senate, their willingness to doing same," he said. "I don't think it would be a bad idea. But I do think it would be a bad idea to come here without an agreement. It costs us $40,000 a day (to be in special session), so I want to be prudent with that money too.--Charlie Crist, one of our Wizards of Smarrt, not only for strategy but for economics.
